This rare seat was used to grate coconut pulp.
A section of clam or pearl oyster was attached to the elongated head as an adze.
Unusual engraving all around the seat lends the chair an unusual elegance.
Because of its size (five square kilometers) and isolation, objects from Tikopia are extremely rare in public and private collections.
New York’s Metropolitan Museum preserves a rasp very similar to our own. (Inv.1979.206.1490)
