Taking the shape of the narrow, stretched rib, the weapon is engraved at one end with a decoration of scrolls and curved openwork lines.

Called Hoeroa or Patou Waïroa in the vernacular, this prestigious weapon was made from the bone of a whale rib.
A parade weapon due to its quality and rarity, this object belonged to Rangatira, high-ranking individuals. It symbolized authority.
The technical aspect of its use as a weapon remains uncertain.
