Snow Goggles

The harsh Arctic climate was a real obstacle for the people of this region.
Because of the high latitude, the sun remains low on the horizon for much of the year. The resulting glare is exacerbated by the reflection off the snow and ice that cover the region. Without protection, the eyes were vulnerable to snow blindness, which is similar to a sunburn of the eyes.
Snow goggles mitigated this effect by allowing the wearer to look through narrow openings while protecting against excessive glare. They also provided protection from wind and snow while traveling.
