This anthropomorphic bust with its excavated patina represents the characteristics of Okvik sculpture. An oval head with a long, narrow nose framed by angular cheekbones. Eyes and mouth simply delineated. Extreme stylization of the torso without arms or legs.
Although there is no scientific consensus as to the purpose or context of prehistoric ivories, it is likely that this beautiful figurine is linked to spiritual practices, mythology, social organization and storytelling.
