The churinga or tjurunga is a sacred object that was handled during ritual ceremonies. Engraved on both sides with symbolic circles typical of the central desert region, this churinga has a rare ovoid shape. The stone’s red color is due to the application of ochre pigment after each ceremony. The churinga were preciously wrapped and protected with a tapa, or animal skin, and kept in a secret place until the next ritual. Only initiated men could see and handle them. Price: €15,500
