Lime spatula

Known as the “Clapper”, the recessed handle served as a percussion box.
With the spatula held by the blade, the handle was struck on a hard surface (or on the hand) so that the two parts of the handle clashed, producing a sharp snap.
Clappers were used only by chefs. They created a sound to make other people aware of their approach, so that they could clear the way for them.
