This Janus rattle is to be compared with a model from the former Helena Rubistein collection.
Holm and Reid 1 note that the striated edge, also illustrated on a specimen from the Herbig-Haarhaus Lackmuseum in Cologne (Inventory no. AM-BG-2-1, acquired in 1941)2, and on our model, could represent the shell of a mollusc (molusca bivalvia). Other comparable models are illustrated in Wardwell’s book.
