1- Woodland corresponds to the forests of the Northeast. They cover a large area from the Great Lakes (a group of five vast lakes located on or near the border between Canada and the United States) to the Ohio River, and from the Atlantic coast to the Mississippi.
Woodcarving played an important role in the artistic traditions of the eastern woodland inhabitants of the USA and Canada. Masks, smoking pipes, feasting bowls, ladles and spoons were the predominant forms of material culture made in ancient times and still survive today.
The wooden spoons were fitted with a curved hook so that they could be hooked onto the rim of the large bowls, preventing them from slipping into the liquid.
These “hooked heads” were carved to represent various effigies. Animals such as birds and mammals were particularly popular, representing the clan symbols of their owners.
Price: €3,900 for a set of 8 pieces
