The handle of this stunner widens to reveal a stylized sea creature sculpted in relief. Probably a sea lion or orca with an open mouth and oversized eye. Lateral fin shown. Two of the Haidas’ most feared marine mammals.

Clubs of this type were commonly used to stun fish such as halibut and salmon before they were hoisted into the canoe. They could also be used to kill seals and sea otters caught with harpoons.
