This TaaGuu halibut hook was made from a single piece of steamed and bent cedar. The iron barb is attached with strips of spruce root.
The curved shape of the arm prevents the fish from escaping. If it struggles and moves away, the hook sinks deeper. This design also prevents small fish from grabbing the hook.
The hooks were often made from the densest part of the spruce tree, to guarantee their solidity while allowing them to catch the biggest fish possible.
