The walrus baculum is the largest known in modern mammals. Known as oosik to Arctic peoples, this highly symbolic penile bone was used in shamanic rituals or to make tool parts like this harpoon element. It gave strength and virility to its owner.

Our piece is unique in that it is carved with a walrus head at the tip.
